Bite Appliance
Why do you need a bite appliance?
If you have bruxism, a bite appliance could help protect your teeth from injury due to grinding or clenching. The bite appliance could also serve as a spacer to help relax your muscle during grinding or clenching, so you won’t wake up with sore muscles. If you play sports, you might also want to have a bite appliance to help protect your teeth from injury during sports, such as if you play basketball, soccer, football, lacrosse, skiing, skate boarding, boxing, martial arts, etc.
How to take care of your bite appliance?
During your routine oral hygiene, include the bite appliance care and cleaning if you wear it daily. Immediately rinse your bite appliance after removing it from mouth. Use a soft toothbrush with some soap water to brush your appliance. Do NOT use toothpaste to brush your appliance since toothpaste is abrasive and could damage your appliance.
Deep clean the appliance once a month with hydrogen peroxide, distilled vinegar, mouthwash for 30 minutes or following the manufacture instructions with over-the-counter guard cleaning tablets. Dry clean your appliance and keep it in a case when it is not used.
